MAN INJURED IN LINCOLN PARK
PARAMEDICS CALLED
A man who reportedly hung a hammock between a tree and a lamppost was injured in Lincoln Park on Tuesday evening when the light fixture toppled over on him.
Details about the condition of the man were not known and DC Fire failed to respond to emails from LPN.
Paramedics responded to the park about 8 p.m. on June 24. A man was lying in the grass being treated by emergency medical technicians, a witness said.
A wire around the tree could be seen where the man apparently attached his hammock.
Parkgoers often test the durability of the facilities in Lincoln Park, which has hundreds of thousands of dollars in deferred maintenance.
In recent weeks, people have been seen exercising on park benches doing crunch jumps as if they think the old wooden benches can take the pressure.
The 150+-year-old park is part of the original 1791 L’Enfant design and was used as a field hospital during the Civil War. In 1867 when Congress officially named the park Lincoln Square, it was the first site to bear the name of the martyred President.
The National Park Service generally neglects Lincoln Park — until someone is seriously injured, or it is in the political interests of the government to sweep in and impose absurd dictates. (One year, park officials ripped native plants out of urns.) Even when there is a reason, changes are transient and permanent reaprairs rarely are made. Deep cuts by the dopey DOGE, the Department of Government Infantilism, and the corrupt Trump administration have left national parks neglected so that the administration and the GOP Congress can give tax cuts to billionaires.

FAREWELL LIBBY, OBSESSIVE LINCOLN PARK RECYCLER OF PLASTIC BOTTLES
LIBBY CROSSES THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
By Christine van den Toorn
Libby Levine-van den Toorn-Amintrano crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully at her home in Sperryville, Virginia on June 17, 2025, at the ripe age of 14. Libby was a very special only dog whose life was devoted to collecting water bottles of all shapes and sizes, and getting as many treats and pets as possible.
Libby had been part of the morning treat circle at Lincoln Park since arriving on Capitol Hill in 2011. She was the beloved dog of Laurie Siegel and Alan Levine for the first half of her life, after which she was adopted by Christine van den Toorn and later also by Matt Amitrano.

Libby was best known for her love of plastic bottles. She could spot a water bottle in a gutter a block away — detritus that would be unseen to the untrained eye. She would pull you toward it as if she was a hunting dog closing on prey. Sometimes Libby preferred water and soda bottles with thicker plastic and sometimes thinner. Usually, she liked it if there was a bit of water left in them. One time she carried a full liter water bottle for several blocks, setting a neighborhood record. Most of Libby’s residences had large piles of plastic bottle collections at the entrance.

She frequently brought water bottles to Mary’s morning treat circle at Lincoln Park. Her second favorite morning stop was Wine & Butter Cafe & Market’s treat window. When Libby was out at her second home in Sperryville, Virginia. Her favorite activity was stopping at the first river crossing and drinking gallons of water from the Hazel River.
Libby was an “only dog,” in that she acted like an only child. She really did not like it when other dogs came over to the house and invaded her space and exclusive access to treats and pets, and didn’t socialize or play with other dogs in general, because she was focused on treats and pets. This is why standing behind Mary was usually the best option for her. Libby also did not chase balls or really play with toys. She only picked up toys to lure you into giving her pets. Libby loved face scratches and ear rubs the best.
She was a very resilient dog and survived two torn CCLs, a slipped disk in her back, multiple torn ligaments in her front arms, Vestibular disease, and a stroke in July 2024.
Libby split her time between Capitol Hill and Alexandria and Sperryville, Virginia. A peripatetic traveler, Libby took frequent trips to Charles County to visit her Uncle Keith, as well as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; New Jersey; and Rehoboth Beach, where walks on the beach consisted of her jumping from sand crab to sand crab to get some snacks.
Libby is survived by her devoted adopted owners of around 8 years Christine van den Toorn and Matt Amitrano, and her stepsister Emily Siegel.
Libby is running around over the rainbow bridge with her first parents and owners, Laurie Siegel and Alan Levine, and her stepsister-dog, Christine’s first dog, Hazel van den Toorn.

GOP BILL: CHANGE WMATA TO WMAGA
Sophomoric Trump sychophant proposes absurdist name for WMATA
Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) wants to change the name of the Washington, D.C., Metrorail to the “Trump Train” and has threatened to withhold federal funding unless the name change takes place.
Steube introduced a one-page bill to change the name of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, or WMATA, to Washington Metropolitan Authority for Greater Access, or WMAGA, to sound like President Donald Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again.”
