CAPITOL HILL LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES RUN COMES TO AN END
LINCOLN PARK NEWSLETTER: Capitol Hill Little League comes up short in Mid-Atlantic regional championship game.
WHAT A GREAT RUN FOR A GREAT TEAM
You gotta see this catch. Lincoln Park’s own Lee Rubin.
Capitol Hill Little Leaguers, representing Washington, D.C., in the Little League World Series playoffs, advanced to the championship game on Friday for the Mid-Atlantic finals but fell short in a historic run.
The Bucks County, Pa., Little League baseball team beat D.C. 5-1 on its way to Williamsport.
After losing its opening round game, CHLL won two games in a row to make it to the finals. But it was up against the team that defeated the Capitol Hill team in the first round, Pennsylvania.
The Council Rock Newtown team, representing Pennsylvania, punched its ticket to the 2024 Little League World Series in the LLB Mid-Atlantic Region tournament final in Bristol, Connecticut.
Friday’s championship contest was a lot closer than PA’s two previous regional games. It opened the scoring with an RBI single from Will Siveter in the third inning.
Washington, D.C., quickly evened the game in the fourth after Rhys Toney doubled home Brady Thomas.
Pennsylvania retook the lead in the bottom half when Brayden Peiffer stole home. It took that lead into a rain delay at the end of the inning.
PA came out swinging following the delay. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out in the fifth. Pennsylvania took full advantage, lining a bases-clearing double to left field.
DC DEFEATS MARYLAND TO GET TO THE REGIONAL FINALS
On Sunday, DC lost to Pennsylvania, 13-1, sending the local boys to the elimination bracket. A second loss would have sent the team home, but they won the next two games, defeating Delaware 1-0, and Maryland 6-1.

Capitol Hill Little League’s most successful summer season ever
Capitol Hill Little League’s most successful summer season ever has officially come to an end, but wow what a summer it has been. We had 7 tournament teams, all with at least one tournament win, 5 played in state championship games, 3 won the state title, and one made it just shy of the Little League World Series. To say it has been a blast is the biggest understatement ever. To the players, the families, the fans, the sponsors, the volunteers, the coaches, and anyone who had any role in our summer season we thank you. To our 2 8U baseball teams, our 10U and 12U softball teams, and our state champ 10U, 11U, and 12I baseball teams—thank you for #CHLL’s best summer ever. And guess what? Now it’s time for #fallball! Let’s go Capitol Hill! ⚾️🥎 #summerofsoftball #boysofsummer #gwg50 #llws #roadtowilliamsport
The success for Capitol Hill Little League follows years of cheating allegations and unfair gamesmanship by the more richly funded Northwest Little League, which was the focus of nasty litigation and stories in The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal this year.
Profile of a volunteer
‘WHERE ARE YOU FROM?’
DASHA IS OUR NEWEST VOLUNTEER URN TENDER
When people ask, “Where are you from?” Dasha prefers the simpler answer, “The East Coast.”
After growing up in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York, she felt that the Washington D.C. area felt most like home.
Dasha graduated from The George Washington University with a degree in Public Health and currently works in health management.
In addition to being passionate about healthcare, she is an avid appreciator of the arts and….plants.
During the COVID pandemic, she spent time helping manage a garden center in Westchester County, N.Y., where she found greater appreciation for perennials, native plants, and bouquet making.
She enjoys trips to Eastern Market and Trader Joe’s to collect new flowers for her DIY arrangements and deeply misses making flower baskets and outdoor arrangements for her customers. And if you need someone to identify pests on your houseplants, she says she’s “your girl.”
After moving into the neighborhood from another part of DC and discovering the Golden Watering Can contest through the newsletter, she is excited to get involved in plants with her community members again.

While she didn’t go to school there herself, Dasha is a lifelong an avid UNC basketball fan and is excited for the season to start back up.
Dasha also created a non-profit called Artists for Impact that hosts concert and art gallery events to raise money for local organizations and causes. It even has a chapter at Eckerd University. While she hasn’t hosted an event in DC since 2019, if any other artistic community members are interested she would love them to reach out.
